This Week at Lone Star: Today - Sept 15th - Gymnastics at Thornton, FFA Greenhand workshop, Sept 16th- HS VB JV and V) at St. Francis at 3:30MT, Sept 17th - (Adulting day has been moved to the 24th), FFA Camping Trip (17th-19th), HSFB at Pawnee at 3pm.

WEEKLY UPDATE: Today: JH and HS VB - we will be doing an inner squad scrimmage with B and C teams at 3pm. JH A and B starts at 4 PM - followed by JV and Varsity. Wednesday: HS Gymnastics at Niwot, JH goes to Rockies Game Friday: Gymnastics at Loveland Saturday: HS FB(Fleming) at Fleming at 1PM (homecoming game)

HS volleyball Parents and Athletes. We got the schedule for tomorrow's tournament this afternoon as they had some teams drop out. It May change again after the coaches meeting in the morning but they should not put us as the 1st game - which starts at 9am. The games will be consecutive and will not follow a specific time - it is just when the game before is done they will start the next. If games change I will send out as soon as I have it. Hanover is Remote in location like Lone Star so please make sure you pack a lunch (they will have a concessions) and fill your tank. If you need directions please contact me at 970-466-0090. FYI The gym is split into two courts and there is not a lot of room for seating. I am attaching the schedule as of this afternoon. Schedule change - due to transportation issues with Otis School District, the JH football game vs. Otis has been rescheduled for Oct. 9th at 10am at Otis. We will still be playing Otis - JH and HS Volleyball on September 7th - we are going to play a C team game at 3 PM (may be an inner squad game or Otis might have enough girls to play - TBD) So C team at 3pm, 4 PM - B team, A team, JV and Varsity

Just a reminder that for the Open House event this evening, we are not doing a potluck. Open house starts at 4PM - 6PM Visit your students' teachers at your convenience, Athletic meeting at 5 and 5th grade parent meeting at 5:30.

Reminder: Tomorrow night, August 31st, we will have our annual back to school night. Teachers will be in their classrooms from 4:00-6:00 to greet families and answer any questions about the upcoming school year. There will also be a Junior High and High school athletics meeting at 5:00 in the gym. Parents of 5th graders! We will be meeting in the art room at 5:30 to discuss the transition from elementary school to junior high.

We received news this week that our school district has been approved to serve free lunch/breakfast to ALL students for the entire school year. We would ask that all families still fill out a free and reduced form for this school year as it greatly helps the district qualify for many grants. Hello Longhorns!! We are excited to see all your smiling faces tomorrow for our first day of school! We have a scheduled our back to school open house for Tuesday, August 31st from 4:00- 6:00. All staff will be available to answer any questions for the upcoming school year. We look forward to another great year!

Tomorrow’s volleyball against Wray high school is going to start at 4 pm starting with JV and then Varsity.

UPDATE: there is a change in the route to head to Burlington tomorrow for HS volleyball players. The players that are able to go tomorrow will either need to meet at the pick up point in Yuma or meet the bus at the school. The bus will be leaving at 7:15 am sharp. The bus will meet the players in Yuma at 7:35 sharp. Remember to bring extra food and water since it will be all day. Please contact Coach Serrato if you have questions.

Reminder: All FBLA members, please be at the school prior to 8:00 am tomorrow to prepare for the poker run.

BAND INSTRUMENTS! For all incoming 5th-8th grade students and parents. This year the entire 5th-8th will be participating in both band and chorus both semesters. This year's groups are rather large and we will have 45 students between all 4 grades. This will put a strain on the number of instruments the school can help to provide. This may cause your student to miss out on playing an instrument that they really want. Thankfully we have a great partner in Mega Music in Sterling that has instruments available for rent and rent to own. These are super affordable and come with insurance plans to make sure that if the instrument needs repaired it will be at little or no cost to you. Please consider going into Mega Music and renting an instrument. This is the surefire way to make sure your student gets a quality instrument that they WANT to play. This will also allow your student to make sure they have the ability to take an instrument home and practice as opposed to having to share an instrument with another student. At home practice is super important and with multiple competitions coming up this year, practice will be even more important.
